Over 1.25 million app downloads! bit.ly When you're ready to start mixing your music in Pro Tools, you'll need to familiarize yourself with the basic plug-ins and their functions. One important plug-in is the EQ, which allows you to choose and control the frequencies of your song. EQ is a way to carve away certain frequencies in your song or boost others. You can narrow down a frequency that's causing a problem in the song by adjusting the range of frequencies in the signal. In the mix window of your session, insert an EQ the same way you would add an insert. Do this by going to the top Inserts section of the track you're editing and click on an empty box. Go to plug-in--EQ and select the type you want to use. The Parametric EQ window will open and you can view all the controls for the settings. With this type of EQ, you can choose any frequency and a Q, which is the selection of the range of frequencies. A small Q means that there is a narrow range of frequencies, while a big Q means there'sa larger one. On the control window, go to the graph on the right side. The dot in the middle sets the frequency. Click and drag on this dot to boost or raise frequencies of the song. The total range is 20 Hz to 20 kHz, which is the human audio range. You can pick and choose how to limit this range by moving the dot. When you move the dot the numbers in the control boxes will tell you the exact frequency range.
